Morgan County unemployment drops to 3.3%

Morgan County’s unemployment rate dropped from 4.4 percent in December to 3.3 percent in January, according to a report issued Friday.

The state Department of Industrial Relations listed Limestone County’s January unemployment rate at 3 percent, Lawrence County’s at 3.8 percent and Madison County’s at 2.8 percent.

Madison and Blount counties tied for the second-lowest unemployment rate in the state. The lowest was in Shelby County, at 2.4 percent.

Wilcox and Bullock counties tied, at 8.3 percent, for the highest unemployment rates in the state.

Morgan County’s civilian labor force was 57,623 in January, with 1,963 unemployed.

Statewide, unemployment in January was 3.3 percent. The national rate was 4.6 percent.
