What are you doing New Year’s Eve?
Some party places to usher in 2007

By Danielle Komis· 340-2447

With New Year’s Eve falling on a Sunday this year — when local alcohol sales are prohibited — the party is dead before it starts.

Because of this glitch, many local restaurants and bars are not throwing New Year’s parties, though a few have events planned Saturday night for those interested in celebrating the big night early.

Local restaurant and bar Café 113 will be closed Sunday, but will be open for normal dinner hours on Saturday night. However, it will forgo any New Year’s Eve festivities that night, said owner Victor Melonas.

“In the past we have done some stuff like that on Saturday but it’s usually kind of hit or miss,” he said.

For once, he will get to enjoy the holiday with friends, he said.

“Once every seven years, I get off to do something,” he said.

So if you were planning on going out this New Year’s Eve, be prepared to go with the flow and pretend that New Year’s Eve is Saturday, or hit the open road to find festivities involving alcohol, music and dancing and make the best of a tricky situation.
