Dogwood Festival kicks off Tuesday

ATHENS — The annual Dogwood Festival in Athens kicks off Tuesday.

There will be a fashion show and luncheon at noon at First United Methodist Church Beasley Center at Marion and Bryan streets.

All About Me will present fashions, with lunch provided by the church’s knitting ministry.

Limited tickets are available.

Cost is $20. Call 233-8728.

The Do Da Parade and festival will be April 28.

The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Big Spring Park. Children can decorate tricycles, bicycles, wagons and motorized vehicles and parade to the square.

The 16th annual festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the square with music, food and children’s activities.

Party for Harry Potter in Athens

ATHENS — Readers can devour the last chapter in Harry Potter’s story in July when the last book in the series is available.

Athens-Limestone Public Library is taking orders for the book, called “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” The cost is $25.

The library also will host a party for the release on July 20 at 10 p.m. and going to midnight.

There will be book readings, prizes, food, games and craft projects.

The staff will distribute pre-ordered books at 12:01 a.m. July 21.

Tickets for the party are $5, which includes one free parent ticket.
