‘Alabama Idol’ auditions today

Whether you’re an American Idol wanna-be, or you want to watch those who are, Huntsville’s Merrimack Hall is the place to be Sunday.

Auditions for WZDX-TV Fox 54’s “Alabama Idol” are scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Contestants must be 16 to 28 (see rules at www. fox54.com) and register between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The winner will get a trip and guaranteed audition in front of “Idol” producers in Philadelphia on Aug. 27.

Judges will include Simon Kirke of Bad Co., Larry Oakes of Foreigner and on-air personality Mojo of WZYP-FM 104.3.

Each Fox affiliate gets one audition with producers (but not necessarily with Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson).

If they’re good enough, in the past American Idol tradition of winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard and runner-up Bo Bice, they will move up after showing their talent.

Along with Philadelphia, American Idol auditions this year will be held in San Diego, Dallas, Omaha, Atlanta, Charleston and Miami.

Audience members get in free at Merrimack Hall, at 3320 Triana Blvd. Finals are scheduled from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
