Stay focused to win $500 in The Daily’s photo contest

The deadline to enter The Daily’s 10th annual amateur photo contest is Thursday.

Category (humor, children, landscape/nature and animals) winners will be announced Nov. 4. They, along with three weekly winners previously announced, earn $25. From these winners, the $500 grand prize winner will be selected.

Here are the rules:

Are you eligible? Amateur photographers (those who earn less than 5 percent of their income from photography) can enter. Daily employees and their immediate family members (those living in the same household) are not eligible to participate.

Pick the perfect photo: Enter as many photos as you wish, but avoid similar shots of an identical subject. Photos must have been taken on or after Jan. 1, 2006. We will accept color and black and white photos.

Submitting photos: Entries cannot be accepted via e-mail. Only prints will be accepted. We will not accept disks or negatives. Nonwinning weekly entries do not have to be re-submitted for subsequent judging.

Identify your photo: Print the name, address and daytime and home phone numbers of the photographer on the back of each photo. If we don’t know who you are, you can’t win!

Keep the deadlines in mind: Deliver entries to The Decatur Daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Nov. 1. Photos also can be mailed to Photo Contest, c/o The Decatur Daily, P.O. Box 2213, Decatur, AL 35609-2213.

Picking up submissions: Photos must remain at The Daily until the conclusion of the contest. Nonwinning photos will be available for pickup Nov. 5-30. We will discard those not picked up by Nov. 30. We cannot return entries via mail. Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for lost or damaged photos.

If you win: The winning photographers agree that The Daily can use their photos for promotional purposes. If requested, they must be able to supply the names of all people included in winning photos. They also must be able to supply the disk or negative containing a winning entry.
