'Taste' to benefit volunteerism

When you take a taste of about 60 dishes expected at Taste of the Valley, you also help encourage volunteerism, especially among youths.

Jessica Nelson, Volunteer Center special events and fundraising coordinator, said they hope people buying tickets to sample foods at the 21 booths will raise $8,500 for the center’s youth programs. The number of tickets to be sold is limited by space available, she said.

The youth programs that will benefit include Points of Light leadership classes for youth volunteers, summer youth volunteer program, summer KIVS (Kids Interested in Volunteer Service) program, VIVA (Volunteens in Volunteer Action), Friend 2 Friend youth mentoring in schools, and Reading Is Fundamental.
