Clements senior vies for state Junior Miss

Limestone County Junior Miss Mary Kathryn Carroll is in Montgomery this week for appearances and competition in the statewide program.

She joins high school seniors from around the state, including Morgan County's Mary Catherine McAnnally and Lawrence County's Emily Kelso, in a week of rehearsals before the finals Saturday evening.

The daughter of Barry and Teresa Carroll of Athens, she attends Clements High School and wants to pursue a medical degree at Vanderbilt University.

She is senior class president, Student Council president and drum major for the marching band.

Carroll entertained Tuesday at Dalraida Elementary School in Montgomery, playing "Turkey in the Straw" on her fiddle during a visit to present the "Be Your Best Self" program.

She is spending this week in the home of Lin and Dr. Kim Whittington, along with roommates Mallory Meissner of Tuscaloosa County and Rachel Ellis of Escambia County.

Carroll was chosen through an at-large program and was omitted from a Sunday story featuring the two contestants selected in Junior Miss programs in Morgan and Lawrence counties.
