A St. Patrick’s Day dance for single adults is planned in Athens on Friday from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Deejay “Jimmie Jam” will provide music for dancing at the event at Friendship United Methodist Church, 16479 Lucas Ferry Road. Wear casual green attire for socializing, refreshments and door prizes. Admission is $6 at the door; call 232-5970.
United Cerebral Palsy of Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley scheduled its annual Irish evening fundraiser Friday in the North Hall of Huntsville’s Von Braun Center.
A social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a catered dinner featuring Irish cuisine at 7 p.m., with Celtic music by SlipJig and Irish step dancers. The silent auction will include vacations and golf packages, while games, including blackjack, will be available.
Tickets are $60 per person or $480 per table of eight. Call 859-4900. The agency has expanded to serve five counties since 1963, and the UCP center provides occupational, speech and physical therapy programs, as well as educational and social services.
Shamrock Saturday, sponsored by the MainStreet Merchants Association on St. Patrick’s Day, will be held in Decatur’s downtown areas: Bank Street and Second Avenue.
Participating merchants will be identified by green bows on the doors. Restaurants participating include Café 113, Lagniappe’s, Maria Bonita and Simp McGhee’s.
The day will include shamrock drawings for 10 to 50 percent off, live music, special restaurant items, green beer, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. performances of “The Music Man” at the Princess Theatre, balloons, games, face painting, popcorn, candy and an opportunity to win a “Pot of Gold” worth $500.
