Walls of Jericho hike

Upcoming hikes

About 60 people make the descent of a Walls of Jericho hike March 24. Most of the hikers were from North Alabama, driving an hour into rural Jackson County. The hike, which was set up by The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ State Lands Division, gave a geological tour of the steep walls and explained the rocky sites along the way.

The hike, which was set up by The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ State Lands Division, gave a geological tour of the steep walls and explained the rocky sites along the way.
Walls of Jericho hikes begin at the hikers’ parking lot off Alabama 79 in Jackson County. The hike is six miles roundtrip, strenuous and involves a 1,000-foot elevation change. The free hikes last about five hours, so each hiker should bring a sack lunch and plenty of water. Four more “Forever Wild” themed hikes are scheduled, each with a guest leader.
