UNA offering Muscle Shoals music class

FLORENCE — Love that Muscle Shoals sound?

The University of North Alabama is offering a course called "Muscle Shoals Sounds: The Rhythm of the River" from 6-8 p.m. on six consecutive Mondays, April 16-May 21, in the conference room of the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library on Wood Avenue in downtown Florence. The course includes Muscle Shoals music industry's sudden transition from Southern soul and rhythm-and-blues in the late 1960s to Southern rock and mainstream pop in the early 1970s.

Invited guests include FAME Recording Studios founder Rick Hall, Grammy-winning songwriter Gary Baker, singer-songwriter Mac McAnally, studio musicians Bob Wray, Mickey Buckins and Harvey Thompson, producer and Alabama Music Hall of Fame director David Johnson, Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section musicians Jimmy Johnson, Roger Hawkins and David Hood and "Nashville Star" finalists Angela and Zac Hacker.
