Garden tour today

Tour the gardens of 16 homes in Old Decatur and Albany historic districts today from 1 to 5 p.m. Get maps for this free event in Delano Park’s restored rose garden. Refreshments and entertainment are planned at Delano, too. The lineup includes harpist Miriam Tew, 1 p.m.; Decatur Youth Symphony, 2 p.m.; vocalist Kelley Gillikin and guitarist Jake Welch, 3 p.m.; and vocalist and guitarist Darin Windham, 4 p.m.

MAY 14

Concert in park Monday

The Decatur High Jazz Band and Austin High Jazz Band and Chamber Choir will perform Monday beginning at 6 p.m. as part of the free Paul Stroud Concerts in the Park series at Rhodes Ferry Park.

Also, the Austin High School band’s free spring concert is Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the AHS auditorium, and its choirs will be featured there Thursday at 7 p.m.

MAY 14

Violins! Violins! Violins!

The Decatur City Schools Strings Program and Decatur Youth Symphony will be showcased in “Violins! Violins! Violins!” on Monday at 7 p.m. in a free performance at the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts.

The Youth Symphony, sponsored by the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department, also will play at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

MAY 26

Comedy, country at Princess Theatre

Several spring and summer shows are coming up at the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts.

The third comedy show this year is planned May 26 at 7:30 p.m. This “Comedy Café Live at the Princess,” co-sponsored by Rocket 95.1, will feature Paul Thorn.

“Nashville Star” winner Chris Young, nominated for top new male vocalist of the year by the Academy of Country Music, will perform at the Princess on July 27 at 7:30 p.m.
