Three noted artists show work at Athens State University

ATHENS — The artwork of Doris Gabel Cox Welch, Rob Cox and Jim Green is on display through May 30 in the Bear Cage Gallery located in the Sandridge Student Center on the Athens State University campus.

Welch is a retired educator who has taught art classes at Athens High School, The Academy for Academics and Arts, Calhoun Community College, Oakwood College and Athens State University. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to study art in Turkey and is a published author and exhibiting artist.

Cox, an Athens native, is currently on the faculty at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the art department and has taught at The University of Alabama, Colorado State University and Young Harris College. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Turkey and exhibits his work throughout the U.S.

Green served as an illustrator for the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal before coming to Athens State and serving on the faculty from 1970 to 1995. He is currently the owner of the Main Street Gallery in Linville, Tenn., and director of the Linville School of Art. Green is the artist in residence at the Milky Way Farms and serves as the farm's museum director.

The show is free and open to the public. Some of the works will be available for sale.
