7 teenagers to compete for Lawrence Junior Miss

A new Lawrence County Junior Miss will be chosen Saturday.

Seven teenagers will compete in the scholarship program at 5 p.m. at Lawrence County High School. Tickets are $10. Children 6 and under get in free.

Angela Mitchell of the Lawrence County Junior Miss Committee said this year’s contestants will receive almost $21,000 in scholarships, including an $18,000 scholarship to the University of North Alabama.

Participants will be judged in interview, talent, scholastics, fitness and self-expression. The winner will go on to compete for the state Junior Miss crown.

Lily Cait Borden

School: Lawrence County High

Activities/honors: Member of the National Honor Society, Leo Club, The Decatur Daily Teen Board, OTC Youth Ministry, Beta Club, FFA/4H, Junior Civitans, Spirit Club and is a varsity cheerleader.

Talent: Lyrical dance to “Listen” by Beyonce

Future plans: Attend The University of Alabama in Birmingham to become a psychiatrist

Victoria Elaine Echols

School: East Lawrence High

Activities/honors: Karate, member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Leo Club and a ELHS Ambassador.

Talent: Tae Kwon Do performance

Future plans: Attend UNA and Auburn to pursue a pharmacy degree

Lauren Nicole Gibson

School: Lawrence County High

Activities/honors: Member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church youth group, National Honor Society, newspaper staff, yearbook staff, Leo Club, Drama Club and Spanish Club. She is band section leader and band council secretary.

Talent: Piano, “Arabesque” by Friedrich Burgmuller

Future plans: Attend UNA, major in a medical field

Virginia Anne Seale

School: Lawrence County High

Activities/honors: Dancer at Kim’s School of Dance in Decatur, an LCHS Ambassador, member of the Leo Club, DECA and FAC. Member of First United Methodist Church of Moulton.

Talent: Dance

Future plans: Attend Auburn University

Erin Suzanne Waits

School: Lawrence County High

Activities/honors: member of the LCHS newspaper news staff, editor of the school newspaper, member of the Spanish Club, Leo Club, Youth Ensemble, Youth Council and Spirit Club. She is also a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Talent: Vocal, “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” by Carrie Underwood

Future plans: Attend the University of North Alabama to be a nurse anesthetist or accountant

Michaela DeLynn Prescott

School: Lawrence County High

Activities/honors: Secretary of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society secretary-treasurer, assistant treasurer of the Moulton Lions Club, and a Diamond Doll for the LCHS baseball team. Member of Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival staff, Star Theatre Committee youth member, Community Education Committee, and a LCHS newspaper staff writer. Violinist for the Moulton Baptist Church orchestra, church choir member.

Talent: Vocal, “I Could Have Danced All Night” from “My Fair Lady”

Future plans: Attend UNA and major in accounting and finance

Rebecca Caroline Elliott

School: Lawrence County High

Activities/honors: Captain of Dancer’s Inc., Performance Team, treasurer of the Leo Club, secretary of the Spanish Club, LCHS newspaper staff writer, member of Junior Civitans and National Honor Society, My Girls Dance Center teacher, Colonial Teen Board member, American Who’s Who and a peer tutor

Talent: Dance to “True Colors” by Cindy Lauper

Future plans: Study medicine at The University of Alabama
