Harry Potter parties
Studio One and Backstage Theatre Co. will host a Harry Potter book-release celebration Friday night.
Owner/director Darren Butler decided to book the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts for the event “because we want all Harry Potter fans of all ages to come and celebrate the ending of the series.” There is no admission charge.
The event will begin at 9 p.m. with a swording ceremony and lasts until after midnight, when Butler will read the first chapter of the new book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”
The Decatur man, a children’s author and playwright, wrote a short play with his view of how the last book will end. It will be presented about 10:30 p.m. with Studio One actors playing favorite book characters: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny and Lord Voldemort.
The boxes of books will be opened at 12:01 a.m. Butler took orders for copies of the book at $23.95 each, and he expects to have some extras. Call 308-2300 to reserve copies.
He said those who ordered books elsewhere can attend this event and leave before midnight to pick up their books.
