Learn about grants for the arts at Carnegie workshop

The Alabama State Council on the Arts will hold a workshop on grants in Decatur on Thursday in partnership with Carnegie Visual Arts Center.

The 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. program will be at the Carnegie, 207 Church St. N.E.

The workshop will provide an overview of the state councilís grant programs, with opportunities for participants to ask questions and discuss program needs.

Randy Shoults, community arts program manager, will lead the workshop, which is open to artists, arts organizations and other nonprofits interested in arts programming.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts is the official state arts agency.

Its staff, directed by Al Head, administers the grant program and provides financial assistance in arts education and programming.

The council receives its support through an annual appropriation from the Alabama Legislature and funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

The meeting will continue through lunchtime, so participants can bring their own lunches or place a takeout order (about $8 each) that morning with others attending the workshop.

To register for the workshop, contact executive director Laura Phillips or Danielle Clark at the Carnegie, 341-0562, or e-mail administration@carnegiearts.org.
