Wheelchair ramps

Several Decatur residents need wheelchair ramps.

Luv Luggage

The Carnegie Visual Arts Center, in partnership with Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, is launching Luv Luggage, a community outreach project for foster children in Morgan County. The project will team donors, volunteers and social services to provide these children with a hand-painted piece of luggage they can call their own. Donate hard or soft-sided, gently used luggage, make a financial gift or volunteer to clean and paint luggage.


Several local agencies need volunteer webmasters to assist them in designing and maintaining Web sites.


Area residents may donate used cars to the Volunteer Center to help fund the programs the center provides to the community.

SSS volunteers

The Calhoun Community College TRIO Student Support Services Emerging Scholars Program needs volunteers to serve as mentors and tutors for students who are low-income, first generation college students and/or disabled students. Call Dorothy Morgan at 306-2634 or Laquinn Richey at 306-2987 to participate.

Vacuum cleaner

A local women's shelter needs a vacuum cleaner.

Citizens Police Academy

The Decatur Police Department is accepting volunteer applications for the Citizens Police Academy. This program is designed to acquaint citizens with the Police Department and its officers. Applications must be received by Wednesday. Classes begin Sept. 4 and will be Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for six weeks. Classes are free of charge. Applications are available at the Police Department.

Bed frames

A mother needs a queen-size and a full-sized bed frame for her two children. The Volunteer Center can arrange for the frames to be picked up from the donor.

Hospital bed mattress/toilet seat riser

A local person needs a standard hospital bed mattress and toilet seat risers.


The Morgan County Department of Human Resources Foster Care Program needs disposable baby diapers of all sizes. The Volunteer Center and DHR will accept these donations.
