Free home tour this weekend

The 2007 Parade of Homes will continue this weekend, with 28 houses in Decatur, Trinity, Priceville and Hartselle open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Greater Morgan County Builders Association is sponsoring the event, which began last weekend. Fifteen builders are involved.

Kent Hollingsworth, owner of KH Construction and vice president of the Builders Association, built two showcase homes in Mountain Cove Subdivision in Trinity, along with several others nearby.

His showcase houses range from 2,000 to 2,370 square feet.

“They have maintenance-free exteriors, all vinyl and brick with some stone accenting the exterior, which is a new trend,” he said.

Other trends you’ll see in his houses, Hollingsworth said, include a room near the front that can be used as an office or study, a split bedroom plan, stainless steel kitchen appliances, covered porch in back, open floor plan without a formal living room, and a bonus room over the garage.

Habitat for Humanity will share some proceeds from the sale of showcase homes at 64 and 74 Mountain Cove Drive. There is no charge to tour homes, where donations are being taken for Habitat.
