Photo Contest: Week 1
And the winner is ...

The expression on 3-year-old Thrasher Steed’s face says it all.

The rush of waves against his feet on his first trip to Gulf Shores elicited a squeal of glee, and the moment was captured by his mother, Brigid Steed of Decatur.

“It was the first time he went to the waves by himself and they scared him and tickled him at the same time,” Steed said.

Judges selected the entry as Week 1 winner in The Daily’s 10th annual amateur photo contest.

Steed earns $25 for her photo and is eligible for the $500 grand prize, which will be awarded Nov. 11.

The contest runs through Nov. 1, but the sooner you enter, the more chances you have to win.

You have two more weeks to enter to win a weekly prize, announced Oct. 21 and 28.

Beginning Nov. 1, judges will evaluate each nonwinning photo and select the best in these categories: children, humor, landscape/nature and animals. Those winners, like the three weekly winners, earn $25 and will be judged for the grand prize.

Nonwinning photos will be available for pickup Nov. 5-30.
