Dog shows in Priceville, Decatur

If you hear the yips and woofs of more than a thousand dogs, don’t be alarmed. The animals will exhibit their best behavior upon stepping into the ring at two area dog shows.

Dogs will compete for the best in breed at the annual Cotton Cluster Dog Show on Thursday through Sunday at the Celebration Arena in Priceville. The Decatur Kennel Club and the Huntsville Kennel Club come together for one of the largest area dog shows licensed by the American Kennel Club. Dogs are judged against standards for their individual breeds and compete for championship points. The competition ends with the announcement of the new Best in Show.

The annual Shetland sheepdog dog show begins Wednesday through Nov. 18 at T.C. Almon Recreation Center at Point Mallard Park in Decatur. The show is presented by the Shetland Sheepdog Club of North Alabama, along with sheepdog clubs from Memphis and Georgia. Judges at the event score the dogs on their performing agility, obedience during trials and physical form. The show attracts between 50 to 70 dogs per day.

Admission is free. A parking fee will be charged daily. Visit www.sheltiecluster.com or www.akc.org for more info.
