Arts festival debuts at Smith Lake on Saturday and Sunday

The first Smith Lake Fine Arts Festival is planned this weekend.

The newly formed, nonprofit Regional Arts Council of Smith Lake will feature artists at this event designed to support art programs for area students.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Lakeshore Inn Marina and Restaurant, 364 County Road 3117, Double Springs.

Pottery activities will enable participants to take self-made artwork home.

Work by Russian artist Ivan Garikow will be on display, including his paintings of the commandants, Rasputin and the royal Russian courts, as well as lectures on his life in concentration camps (see www.garikow.com).

Food will be available at the LakeShore Restaurant and in kiosks around the festival, and musical entertainment will be featured.

For information on exhibiting, attending or the student logo contest, check www.freewebs.com/smithlakearts or call 338-1257.
