Ten historic houses in Decatur, along with parks, public buildings and churches, are featured in a local calendar for 2008.

Janice Gaultney, who helps with the Historic Decatur Christmas Tour and other projects in Old Decatur and Albany, conceived the idea and wouldn’t stop until she had calendars in hand.

She received the first copies last week and said sales will benefit the parks in the historic areas: Delano Park in the Albany area and Frazier Park in Old Decatur.

“These calendars will make great Christmas gifts and are available now at the businesses in the historic districts that helped sponsor the calendar printing,” Gaultney said.

The homes featured in the calendar include those to be featured on the 2007 holiday home tour: McEntire-Odom, Vickrey-Wascom, Whisenant-Willis and Jervis-Ellis houses.

The other calendar houses were on the 2006 tour: Gibson-Gaultney, Williams-Williams, Holloman-Rankin, Carpenter-Blake, Gray-Freeman and Bragg-Geddes houses.

The public buildings and downtown churches that are open for the tour afternoon and evening each year also are in the calendar: Old State Bank, Carnegie Visual Arts Center, Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, and First Presbyterian, Westminster Presbyterian and First Baptist churches.

These sponsors have copies of the calendar: Glee Interiors, Bank Street Antique Mall, Willis Gray Floral Design, Albany Framing, Bank Street Uniques & Candy Bouquet, G. Jones Downtown, Selma’s on 2nd, Carriage House, Perceptive Designs, Behind the Glass, J. Ross the Florist, Deloain New York, Bungalow Home, The Paper Chase, Eloise & Henry, Sam Frank & Moore, and Schoel, Godwin and Barnett P.C.

The $15 calendars also are available at locations selling tickets for the Dec. 8 Historic Decatur Christmas Tour of Homes, including Jimmy Smith Jewelers and Belk’s. They will be sold during the home tour, too.
