Winter is a gorgeous season when in full “bloom.” Let’s be thankful for the blessings that this time of the year can bring. Rainy, snowy and gloomy days can mean times of crisp refreshment. It’s all in how you look at it.
Let’s see what the “chatter” is for today …
Bowlin’ Round Up
On these cold, winter days, there is nothing more fun than finding an indoor activity, especially one that supports a worthy cause. Roll up your sleeves and get ready for the “Boot Scootin’ Rollin’ Bowlin’ Round Up,” a benefit for Junior Achievement of North Central Alabama.
Mark your calendars for the weekend of Feb. 23-25 at River City Lanes in Decatur. Registration ends soon; it’s $25 per person, with four bowlers per team.
Junior Achievement is a worldwide organization teaching applied economics, business skills and work force readiness, while focusing on the free enterprise system. Through such programs as the high school job mentoring program, students are able to see first-hand if they are interested in varied fields or specialty positions.
“The reality is that not everyone is college material, but each child has a special gift. Junior Achievement educational programs can help students in grades K-12 identify their talents and gifts,” said Paula Rigler of Decatur, president of Junior Achievement.
Fifteen schools are using the education program, and bowlers will help fund more. Right now it costs $10 per child and $250 per class to make the program a reality, and sponsorships are needed.
For more information on the Roundup or how you or your business can become involved with Junior Achievement, contact Lutrecia Elliott, special events director, 353-3573 or lweja2528@charterinternet.com.

The organization was considering disbanding last year, but Sandra Rost agreed to serve as president. Under her committed direction and dedication to increasing membership, the chapter is going strong with more than 30 members.
Highlights of this anniversary meeting will be history notes and recognition of charter members. For more information on membership or to make a reservation ($15 for the meal), call Rost at 353-9546.
