Culinary legend coming to Princess

Wendy’s word

March is here, and as we stroll into a new month and soon-to-be new season of the year, I wanted to share my recipe for happiness.

Begin with a happy heart that comes from contentment with where we are, then coat with love and encouragement. Add a few smiles, laughs and tears of joy, then face the world, holding family and friends near, with a wellspring of self-confidence knowing that you are never alone.

Rest in the realization that true happiness is something that comes from the inside, something we make up our minds to enjoy. It cannot be found in this world, for the world will always disappoint us. May you find the treasure of happiness you seek today and share it with the rest of the world.

Now let’s see what the “chatter” is for today ...

Chef at Princess

On March 19, the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts will welcome author and Chef Frank Stitt III of Birmingham. You’ll enjoy the evening as Stitt discusses his culinary experiences and philosophies and then signs copies of his cookbook, “Frank Stitt’s Southern Table.” The program, part of the lecture series sponsored by the Princess and Calhoun Commuity College, will begin at 7.

Stitt grew up in Cullman. Bon Appetit magazine named Stitt a culinary legend in 2003, saying that his “fondness for humble Southern ingredients comes from his own roots in rural Alabama.”

His first restaurant, Highlands Bar & Grill in Birmingham, opened in 1982 with Southern foods meeting French sauces. Now he also has Bottega, Café Bottega and Chez Fonfon, all in Birmingham. Stitt received the James Beard Award for Best Chef of the Southeast and appeared on the Food Network, “Great Chefs, Great Cities” on the Discovery Channel and other shows.

Tickets are $10 at the door; call the Princess, 350-1745, for information.

LePetit Salon

The monthly meeting of the 840 Salon 824 was led by LePetit Peggy Chapman. The group met in Athens at Southern Buffet, with 12 members present.

It was announced that donations were made to the Child Welfare Foundation at Jewish Medical Center in memory of late partner Rowena Livingston and to the Nurses Scholarship Fund to help promote nursing interest in specialized treatment of respiratory diseases in children.

A report on the recent winter conference in Birmingham was also shared, followed by a reading of the poem “The Master’s Hand.”

The next meeting will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Cabin Grill in Hartselle. That’s all for now. It’s been great chattin’ with ya! Let me know what is going on in your little corner of the world. If it’s special to you and features any of the great people who live in our community, then it will make a great Chatterbox item. Just e-mail me at dd
chatterbox@yahoo.com, or call me at 350-5730. I look forward to hearing from you.
