CHATTERBOX

High-schoolers: Colonial Mall needs you
Wendy’s word
Today is Good Friday, and that’s what it will always be in my mind. Much, much more than simply a spring holiday, as many would call it. Bursting forth with hope, it is a day of joy with a beautiful promise of all that is to come on Sunday. It’s a good day, nestled in the assurance of peace and contentment that a Savior has come to save us all.
We are blessed to have many churches in our area. If something seems lacking in your life, find a church that suits you and start with worship on Easter weekend.
Now let’s see what the “chatter” is for today ...

Guest speaker Sgt. Hattie Hampton, head of the Morgan County program Project Life Saver, explained how the program assists those in the community who wander. By wearing a bracelet those with Autism, Down syndrome, dementia and Alzheimer’s, for example, can be located by an electronic emission from the bracelet. Sponsored by the Pilot Club, bracelets are $285.
Guests included Morgan County Jail warden Leon Bradley, Nancy Weatherford and students from A&M with an interest in the mental health field.
Among members attending were Marie Hood, executive director of the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama, and Linda Pierce, case manager.
Friends of North Alabama Regional Hospital will host a fundraising golf tournament May 7. Proceeds will provide extras for the patients, such as clothing and personal supplies.
Charity Avera and Hood announced other upcoming events, including Southern Nights and Broadway Nights at the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts on Sept. 21 and a Mental Health Conference on Oct. 4.
The next meeting is April 24, with a guest speaker from Quest, the substance abuse program at the Mental Health Center.
