Baby Doll Club meets for tea party

Wendy’s word

Something I heard the other night made an impression on my heart, and I wanted to share it with you.

The comment was this — during the early years of life we spend so much time looking forward, wishing and dreaming of the road ahead. It isn’t until the later years that we pause, reminiscing over old photographs and memorabilia, realizing the road we have traveled.

That just struck a chord with me. Let us not wish our lives away thinking about tomorrow. Enjoy today and see the beauty in the present, ensuring that treasures are stored up for us to reflect on one day and think to ourselves, “What a joy this journey of mine has been.”

Now let’s see what the “chatter” is for today ...

Tea party

A special treat took place recently when The Baby Doll Club met for a spring meeting and afternoon tea at the home of Julie Missildine. Abby Missildine hosted the festivities.

Following a devotional, the girls and their dolls enjoyed an old-fashioned Victorian tea including meringues, lemon tarts, scones and cream-filled strawberries. They then spent time making souvenir bookmarks to take home as a memory of their day together.

The Baby Doll Club, started in 2005 by Melissa Johnson, offers monthly themed events for young home-schooled girls. Those participating in the party were Mattie Miner, Kaitlyn Thompson, Jordan Miner, Halie Anders, Sarah Hand, Emma Anders, Challie Johnson, Mikaela James, Sally Ann Missildine, Lindsey Childers, Susan King and Jessica Muench.

Romance luncheon

It’s almost time for the 10th annual Heart of Dixie Romance Readers’ Luncheon, which will be held at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville on May 5.

Attendees will share lunch and conversation with fellow romance readers and favorite romance authors, including Linda Howard, Beverly Barton, Linda Winstead Jones, Peggy Webb, Kelley St. John, Debra Webb, Lori Handeland, Diana Love Snell and Lori Wilde.

This event also will include door prizes, celebrations and a special presentation honoring Heart of Dixie’s 20th year as a chapter of Romance Writers of America. A book fair and autograph session with the authors following the luncheon is free to the public.

That’s all for now. It’s been great “chattin” with ya! Let me know what is going on in your little corner of the world. If it’s special to you and features any of the great people who live in our community, then it will make a great Chatterbox item. Just e-mail me at ddchatt erbox@yahoo.com, or call me at 350-5730. I look forward to hearing from you.
