UDC celebrates Founders Day
Joe Wheeler Chapter 291 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy held a Founders Day brunch recently, celebrating the 108th year since being organized on March 29, 1899. President Glendora James welcomed members and guests including Alabama Division President Lorraine Ennis; Joe Wheeler District Director Bettye Moore; Alabama Division SCV Commander Leonard Wilson; past Alabama Division Presidents Connie Ansley and Charlotte Hazel; Honorary Alabama Division President Kay McCarley; Associate Members Dr. Angie Nazaretian and Thomas Whitman; Leland Free of Moulton, commander of the Lt. JK McBride Camp 241; and Chapter President Gene Morman of Chattanooga.
A new membership certificate was presented to Marguerette Mammarelli in honor of her Confederate ancestor Pleasant Marion LeMay of Co. I, 11th Ala. Cavalry Burtwell’s Regiment.
Three certificates of appreciation were presented to chapter members Jan Howell, Rita Birdsong and Kathy Jones for outstanding contributions.
Entertainment was provided by Ross Moore, member of the SCV Camp 155 in Tullahoma, Tenn., and honorary Tennessee Division Bandmaster.
