Brown/Roberts reunion Saturday

Wendy’s word

In the words of the famous theologian SpongeBob Squarepants, “Wising makes dreams come true.”

All dreams must start with a wish, a desire that sets our path toward achievement, success and happiness. We must have something sitting in front of us for which to strive.

One of my favorite country songs says this: “My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to, your dreams stay big, your worries stay small, you never need to carry more than you can hold. While you’re out there gettin’ where you’re gettin’ to I hope you know somebody loves you and wants the same things too. This is my wish.” — Rascal Flatts.

Whatever your wish is today, may it come true.

Now let’s see what the “chatter” is for today ...

Brown/Roberts Reunion

The 30th annual Brown/Roberts reunion will be at Delano Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All descendants of Martin Brown and Walter Roberts are invited to attend. Activities will be at the picnic pavilion.

A covered dish lunch will feature favorite recipes brought by all family members. Pull out your favorite games, lawn chairs and memory books and come for a great afternoon of fun.

With more than 100 in attendance last year, organizers B.B. Franklin and Orval Roberts expect to top that crowd this year.

“I just love seeing all of the children. It just makes me so proud,” said Ilva Defenthaler. “Last year, I was lucky to have some of my great-grandchildren there, so I can’t wait to see who all comes this time.”

For more information, call Defenthaler at 350-6191 or Charles Brown at 820-4836.

Decatur Newcomers

Newcomers of Decatur will get back to nature Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Burningtree Country Club, as Ranger Daphne from Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge visits with some animal friends.

Come hear about opportunities available at the Refuge, and join the group for a follow-up walking tour of the refuge May 25 at 10 a.m.

Need more info? Want to make reservations? Call Stacie Thompson at 751-4773.

ABWA

The American Business Women’s Association will meet Thursday at the Courtyard Marriott in Decatur. A reception begins at 6 p.m., with a catered dinner at 6:30.

Special guest Kayla Henderson of Danville High School is this year’s recipient of a college scholarship. Henderson, who worked full time while maintaining a good grade point average, will be honored as the first in her family to attend college. She and her parents will be recognized at the meeting.

Other highlights of the evening will be special entertainment and the presentation of Woman of the Year.

The dinner is $15. For more information or to make your reservation by this afternoon, call Sandra Rost at 353-9546.

Red Hats

The Les Femmes Elegantes chapter of the Red Hat Society will celebrate its sixth anniversary May 16 at the Decatur Country Club.

The “A Garden of Friends” themed-event will feature entertainment, door prizes and an appearance by the “Hot Flash” dancers.

Reserve your spot by Thursday. Tickets are $20. All Red Hatters are invited. To make a reservation, call 301-9620.

Hartselle Newcomers

The Hartselle Newcomers Club met recently at the Hartselle Depot, with members bringing donations for the Heroes for Red Cross campaign, supporting the Morgan and Lawrence County American Red Cross organizations.

Guest speaker Kris Nowka recently relocated with her family from Texas.

Since becoming a personal life coach, she helps clients move forward and overcome obstacles with the objective to become what God intended them to be.

Newcomers will get together again Thursday with a tour of the historic Patillo House, the Oden House Bed and Breakfast and the First Christian Church. Lunch will follow at the Oden Cottage. Meet in the parking lot of the First Christian Church at the corner of Main and Sloss Streets at 10:30 a.m.

First United Methodist Church will provide child care. For more information, call Sue Kalber at 751-0295 or Sandy Johnson at 751-4540.

That’s all for now. It’s been great “chattin” with ya! Let me know what is going on in your little corner of the world. If it’s special to you and features any of the great people who live in our community, then it will make a great Chatterbox item. Just e-mail me at ddchatterbox@yahoo.com, or call me at 350-5730. I look forward to hearing from you.
