Walk to support diabetes awareness
Wendy’s word
“It’s so cold!” With the heat the way it’s been, I never thought I would actually say those words. Although it’s a breath of fresh air, I could not seem to get warm the other day.
My sweet son, as he always does, said, “Mom, you may be cold, but if you’re warm in your heart, that’s all that matters.” My, how that tenderhearted little man warms my spirit.
Whether you wrap up in a blanket or throw on your favorite sweater, may you find something to satisfy and warm your heart today.
By the way, have a “chillin” Halloween on Wednesday!
Now let’s see what the “chatter” is ...
Walking for a cause
It’s one thing to walk, it’s another to walk and make a difference. That’s just what you’ll be doing if you take part in the annual Morgan County Diabetic Walk. Join Lexie Martin, 5-year-old daughter of Andy and Christy Martin, who will lead the walk Saturday inside the Ministry Center of Hartselle’s First United Methodist Church.
All donations of $30 will receive a sponsor T-shirt that can be picked up at the walk by those who are pre-registered. Participants also receive a free meal ticket and bottle of water.
Volunteers are needed for the walk. Anyone interested in helping or needing additional information should call 751- 3000, ext. 100.
BHS Reunion
Brewer High School Class of 1982, it is time for your 25th class reunion. Mark your calendar for Nov. 10 at Quail Creek Resort for an evening spectacular. For those interested, there is also a golf outing that morning.

Women’s Connection

Special guests Ralph and Mae Ledbetter will demonstrate ballroom dancing, followed by speaker Renate Bates of Manchester, Tenn. Growing up in wartime Germany under extreme conditions, Bates will share the message, “If I had known then what I know now.”
The cost for lunch is $13. Complimentary nursery care is available for those with small children.

The 2007-08 Princess Theatre lecture series continues Monday night with The Elephant Sanctuary: A Captive Elephant’s Only Acceptable Alternative, presented by founding Director Carol Buckley. The program begins at 7 p.m.
Buckley’s lecture will present an overview of the history and operations of The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tenn., feature video footage of the elephant residents and conclude with a book signing. The lecture will address the crisis facing elephants in captivity and in their home ranges as well as engage and involve audiences of any age.
The Elephant Sanctuary is the nation’s largest natural-habitat refuge developed specifically to meet the needs of endangered elephants. It is a nonprofit organization, licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, designed specifically for old, sick or needy elephants that have been retired from zoos and circuses.
Since it’s inception in 1995 as a true sanctuary, The Elephant Sanctuary is not intended to provide entertainment. It is closed to the public. However, education represents a key component of the Sanctuary’s ongoing mission. The sanctuary’s outreach program has taught thousands of schoolchildren around the globe a respect for wildlife, while learning about the endangered Asian elephant.
This collaboration with Calhoun Community College is sponsored by Bank Independent and made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Southern Arts Federation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
General admission tickets are available at the door or in advance at the Princess Theatre box office. Prices are $10 or $5 for students and teachers.
For more information, call 340-1778 or visit www.princesstheatre.org.
That’s all for now. It’s been great “chattin” with ya! Let me know what is going on in your little corner of the world. If it’s special to you and features any of the great people who live in our community, then it will make a great Chatterbox item. Just e-mail me at
ddchatterbox@yahoo.com, or call me at 350-5730. I look forward to hearing from you.
