CHATTERBOX
Wendy N. McDougal
Hartselle to present 'Steel Magnolias'
Wendy's word
November is here, and fall seems to be in full swing. I love this time of year, a true season of beauty and bountiful blessings. Retail owners and countless individuals, however, seem to go straight from Halloween to Christmas, with little recognition of the annual Thanksgiving holiday. It just breaks my heart.
I'm not saying planning or getting a little ahead on your holiday shopping is wrong, but don't miss the loveliness of these next few weeks. December will be here before we know it, and when the time comes we can cross that bridge into the holiday chaos, but today brings November.
Let's slow down, enjoy and make it a month to remember, as we reflect on all the blessings that have come our way.
Let's see what the "chatter" is for today ...
'Steel Magnolias'
Many may remember the acclaimed 1980s motion picture "Steel Magnolias." Now you can catch the on-stage presentation of the touching and hilarious story, presented by the College Street Players at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center on Nov. 9 and 10 and Nov. 16 and 17.
Directed by Edd Balch, cast members include Laura Phillips as Truvey Jones; Allison Hood as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto; Ann Hill as Clairee Belcher; Dena Nagel as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie; Kelly Gillikin as M'Lynn Eatenton; and Jane Burrell as Quiser Boudreauz.
The play chronicles a story of friendship among six women who regularly gather at the local beauty shop to share the trials and tribulation of life. The primary focus is on Shelby, a beautiful young woman who deals with a life-threatening disease. With the self-deprecating humor that is often associated with Southern women, the script is full of wisecracks and pop-psychology, taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride.
Shows are at 7 p.m., with $10 general tickets available from Hartselle High School drama students. Group and senior rates are available for only $5 per ticket. Call 355-5994.
