Bunco gets tacky with Beta Sigma Phi
Wendy’s word
Inspiration originates in the strangest places. Today’s spot was the beauty salon. I was coming out of mine and she was exiting hers next door with some assistance.
It was a younger man — I am guessing her son. “We need to hurry just a bit,” he said, as she was busy saying goodbye to her friends, each commenting on the new hair-dos. “Take it easy down the step,” he cautioned. “I’m taking it easy and just chuggin’ right along.”
I didn’t think much of it, until I heard her say, “If I ever stop chuggin’, I’ll be dead!” I got in my car and chuckled to myself, thinking, “Isn’t that the truth?”
We can never stop pushing, trying or chuggin’ along. May these words of wisdom inspire you today and lift your spirits.
Now let’s see what the “chatter” is ...
Did you say tacky?
Yes, tacky was the attire at the recent Xi Beta Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi’s “Tacky Bunco” party. Anna Troutt hosted the get-together in her garage, and members arrived in their tackiest attire.
Delectable refreshments were served including canned potted meat (disguised as possum, gator and buzzard) with saltine crackers, Moon Pies and RC Colas. A yummy lunch followed.
Those in attendance were Cookie Register, Faye Pyatt, Marcia Silva, Susan Chi, Aileen Duff, Nancy Pett, Diane Robichaud, Mary Sloan, Jackie Higdon, Marla Lockard, Nancy Beaty and Pat Shaffer.

Celebration Arena to host dog show
The Decatur Kennel Club and the Huntsville Kennel Club come together each year for one of the largest area dog shows licensed by the American Kennel Club. Dogs will compete for the best in breed at the annual Cotton Cluster Dog Show on Nov. 8-11 at the Celebration Arena in Priceville. More than 1,200 dogs — ranging from novice to experienced — from throughout the U.S. registered and competed last year.
Dogs are judged against standards for their individual breeds and compete for championship points at the conformation show. The competition ends with the announcement of the new Best in Show.
According to Jean Hairston, treasurer for the Cotton Cluster Dog Show, “When judging, the judge compares the dog to a mental picture of the perfect dog of that breed. The dog is judged on physical structure, condition, gait and temperament.”
“Each day is an individual show with the competition becoming harder and more exciting,” said Hairston, who is president of the Huntsville Kennel Club. “These shows are also a good way to see the different breeds and talk with breeders.”
The public is invited. Admission is free. A parking fee will be charged daily.
