Big Bad Wolf’s trial of a century at Austin High
Wendy’s word
You have to walk the talk. Twice a week I sit down and write “Wendy’s Word,” sharing a bit of my heart, my life and my tidbits of wisdom.
Just the other night I was talking with my son before bed and commented on something that was bothering me during our devotional time. His response, “Mom, read your column.”
Countless times, we give advice to friends and family, but do we live by our suggestions? When handing out our words to others, may we take them to heart and apply them in our own lives.
Now let’s see what the “chatter” is for today ...
‘Big Bad Wolf’
The Austin High School Drama Department presents “The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf” on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
The show will feature classic fairytale favorites: The Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, who is on trial by his “character” friends — Little Miss Muffett, Little Bo Peep, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and Jill, Humpty Dumpty and Old King Cole.
Under the direction of drama teacher Susan Thompson, the play will leave the audience wondering if the characters have come to accurately report the proceedings or to turn the courtroom into a media circus. With a surprise witness at the end, the answers to these questions and more are revealed in this rollicking, fun-filled, action-packed trial of the century.
The cast includes Ryan Meyer at reporter; Christina Crow as newscaster; Sarah Tryon as Town Crier; Jalen Brown as clerk; Jade Wagner as Amadeus Pig; Joanna Holcomb as Marcellus Pig; Erin Phillips as Bartholomew Pig; Devin Shelton as Wallington Wellington Wolf III; Amber Moore as Little Miss Muffett; Megan Shelton as Little Red Riding Hood; Jeremy Jones as Old King Cole; Rew Walker as Jack; Chynna Jones as Jill; Brianna Shelton as Mistress Mary; Elizabeth Eysenbach as Little Bo Peep; Jimmy Rath as Jack Sprat; Elise Robinson as Mrs. Sprat; Kirk Averitt as Tom, Tom the Piper’s Son; Damion Bankhead as Humpty Dumpty; Krista Thompson as Cinderella; Roy Chase as Judge Wise O. Al; and Olivia Cain as Girl (Charity).
General admission tickets are $4 and will be available at the door 45 minutes before the show. Reservations are also available for a school performance at 9 a.m. on Monday at a rate of $3 per student.

Daughters
Joe Wheeler Chapter No. 291 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met recently with President Glendora James welcoming members.
James and Linda Edwards led the salute to the flags and rituals, followed by Vice President Kay McCarley reading the president general’s message from the UDC magazine.
The chapter will participate in several upcoming projects, including the Can-A-Thon and Salvation Army Angel Tree. Great-Great Granddaughter President Kathy Jones will collect cans and donations. Edwards will handle contributions for the Meals-on-Wheels project.
Member Terri Dean turned in 60 grave locations and she, along with Deborah Miranda and Kathy Jones, volunteered to input the information into the general UDC database.
Reports were given on the UDC State Convention in Huntsville, including an announcement of the awards the chapter won.
Member Laverne Foster presented a program on “Confederate Ghosts,” with a history of the Battle of Murfreesboro and the Battle at Stone River, where one of her ancestors was killed.
Linda Clemons read the poem “Old Graves,” written by member Bettye Moore, which won first place at the state convention.
