Humphrey elected vice president of Florence State student council

75 years ago

Nov. 6-11, 1931

Jean Humphrey of Decatur was elected vice president of the Florence State Teachers College student council.

Trinity formed a unit of the Morgan County Red Cross and E.L. Clemmons was named chairman of the branch.

50 years ago

Nov. 6-11, 1956

Flint Junior High School elected 4-H officers for the ensuing year. They are Nancy Moore, president; Syble Long, vice president; Dianne Grant, secretary; Jeff Thrasher, reporter; Patricia Nicholson and Faye Johnson, recreational leaders; and Carol Edwards and Eloise Kent, song leaders.

Lucy Walker was advanced from chairwoman of junior vice commander to commander of Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary to D.A.V. Chapter 11.

Nov. 6-11, 1981

Boys' Club football's most improved player awards were presented to Broderick Booker, Greg Tapscott, Rich Wiley, Tracy Johnson, Scott Conaway and John Hull.

The Rev. David Hooks, a Tallassee native, became the new pastor of Piney Grove Christian Church in Falkville. His family includes his wife Elizabeth and their children, Joshua and Ashley.

Nov. 6-11, 1996

Gordon Thayer was named director of marketing at The Renaissance, formerly Cedar Springs retirement community.

Thayer, a graduate of The University of Alabama, was previously a counselor at Brookhaven Middle School and Calhoun Community College.

Jim Sawyer, sales consultant at Joe Sartain Ford in Decatur, was named a member of the Ambassador Diplomat Society of the Atlanta region's quality commitment program. Only 10 percent of sales consultants earn the designation.

The program is based on a system of scoring questions from new car surveys. A Ford official said Joe Sartain's customer scoring ranks among the best of Ford's 500 dealerships.
