Police arrest girlfriend accused of helping man escape from jail

Decatur police arrested a Decatur woman who allegedly helped her boyfriend escape from jail by driving him to Mississippi and renting him a motel room.

George Justin Knoblock was an inmate at Decatur City Jail on Friday when he walked off his work release duties at Point Mallard Aquatic Center.

Investigators allege that his girlfriend, Katie Elizabeth Zent, 24, of 718 Fourth Ave. S.E., picked Knoblock up from the Aquatic Center, knowing that he meant to escape from jail.

Police allege that Zent drove Knoblock to Iuka, Miss., and paid for his motel room.

Police charged Zent with second-degree facilitating escape. She remained in Decatur City Jail on Monday night.

Police believe Knoblock remains in the vicinity of Iuka. He has no known source of money or transportation, and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.

Police ask anyone with information about Knoblock's whereabouts to call Sgt. Rick Archer at 341-4660.
