ATV dispute leads to fatal shooting

MOBILE (AP) — A Citronelle man was charged with manslaughter and second-degree assault for allegedly shooting two men he said were trespassing on his property, authorities said.

Tommy Phillips, 54, was released from Mobile County Metro Jail on Sunday on $6,000 bail, according to the jail log.

Jack Cochran, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene on Phillips's property in north Mobile County, said Christina Bowersox, a Mobile County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Timmy Dearman, 34, who was also shot, was treated and released at University of South Alabama Medical Center, Bowersox said.

On Saturday, Phillips had filed a complaint with the Sheriff's Department alleging that people had been entering his property to ride all-terrain vehicles, Bowersox said.
