UPDATE: Wheeler Refuge sting
LAST WE KNEW: Federal officials cited nine men for public indecency June 24-25 at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.
Five pleaded guilty Sept. 14 in U.S. District Court in Huntsville. Law enforcement officers saw the men involved in various sexual acts, according to evidence presented. A sixth man was later cited only for being on refuge property after closing.
LATEST: Michael Watson, 54, from Cedar Bluff, pleaded guilty to public indecency Sept. 29 and was sentenced to 10 days in jail, 12 months probation and a $500 fine. U.S. District Judge Lynwood Smith was to try the remaining two cases in October, but the cases were continued.
NEXT: Arraignment and pre-trial motions for Carey Laney, 55, of Arab, and Kenith McGriff, 56, of Holly Pond, have been delayed but could take place during the court's November or December sessions, a U.S. Attorney spokesperson said.
