Library used book sale Friday and Saturday

Friends of the Decatur Public Library will hold a used book sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Like-new, hardback fiction and nonfiction will sell for $3 or less. Paperbacks typically sell for between 10 and 50 cents each.

The sale will be in both the community room and the Used Book Sale Room at the main branch at Sixth Avenue Southeast and Lee Street.

Recent donations

Bailey Terry, Friends president, said some of the items are left over from last year's sale but many are recent donations. Donations come into the library every day, and an overstock of books and a lack of storage space have prompted this sale.

Friends of the Library made more than $33,000 last year from the sale of used books.

Friends will spend $18,000 this year to provide matching funds for the library's new automation system.

Friends also will provide $3,340 in matching funds to get a Library Services and Technology Act grant for a Children at Risk program.

Friends also provides ongoing support to provide Internet service, programs, furniture, plants and other items that the library's budget does not cover.
