Woman improving after being beaten with meat tenderizer

HUNTSVILLE — A Decatur woman whose husband allegedly beat her with a meat-tenderizing utensil is expected to be out of the neuro-intensive care unit this morning.

A Huntsville Hospital spokeswoman said Margaret Childers was in stable condition Sunday night.

Childers, 69, of 2216 Riverbend Court S.E., suffered multiple injuries to her head Saturday during a fight with her husband at home, Decatur police said.

They arrested Alvin C. Childers, 77, Saturday afternoon and charged him with first-degree domestic violence.

He is being held in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bond.
