Trailer slips off jack, kills Union Grove man

UNION GROVE — Someone gave Melvin Dewayne Sloan a cattle trailer Friday, and the trailer fell on him Saturday and killed him.

Sloan, 43, died of suffocation, Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard said. A relative found him at about 2:30 p.m. under the trailer.

Beard said Sloan jacked up the 16-foot trailer to work on it at his residence, and it slipped off the jack, apparently because of the rain-soaked ground.

Beard ruled the death accidental.
