7-year-old run over by float improving

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — A second-grader critically injured when she was run over by a float during The University of Alabama's homecoming parade is improving.

Doctors at Children's Hospital said 7-year-old Karissa Ball of Tuscaloosa was taken off life support Thursday and her foster parents say her condition has improved. Karissa suffered two broken bones and other injuries when she ran into the street to grab candy and was hit by an 18-wheeler. An account has been set up at Region's to help the girl's family.
