2 from Decatur picked to join Lipscomb SGA

Fiinn Breland and Meghan Hill, both of Decatur, have been elected as senators to Lipscomb University's Student Government Association for 2006-07.

Breland is a junior majoring in American studies, and Hill is a sophomore majoring in interdisciplinary teaching.

Lamb honored

Zachary S. Lamb of Decatur has been recognized as Outstanding Freshman Student by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Auburn University's highest all-discipline academic honor society.

The honor is given to students who achieved the highest scholastic record in their school and/or college.

As a recipient of this award, Lamb has also been selected for the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering.

He will be recognized at the fall initiation and awards ceremony and reception.

Lamb is a 2005 graduate of Austin High School and is a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Engineering. He is the son of Steven and Lynn Lamb of Decatur.

Leon Sheffield honors

Leon Sheffield Elementary School announces these additions to the first six weeks honor roll.

"A" honor roll, third grade: Trey Cheatham, Davis Earley, Amy Wynn.

"A-B" honor roll, third grade: Christopher Harper, Jacob McKelvy.

TVHS winners

These students and schools were winners at The University of North Alabama's and the Tennessee Valley Historical Society's high school history competition, held Nov. 4.

William White, first place, Muscle Shoals High School, $1,000 from TVHS; Kevin
Bailey, second place, Muscle Shoals High School, $500
book scholarship from UNA Office of Admissions; Sarah Evans, third place, West Limestone High School, $250 from TVHS.

"Big Brain" team competition winners: Russellville High School, first place; Colbert County High School, second place; West Limestone High School third place.
