Councilman to host 2 meetings on preservation, streets, sidewalks

The preservation of Austinville, street widening and sidewalk construction will be discussion topics this week during two District 4 meetings hosted by Decatur City Councilman Ronny Russell.

On Tuesday, Russell will address residents on the city's intent to widen Sandlin Road Southwest from two to three lanes, including construction of curbs, gutters and sidewalks on the east side of Fifth Avenue Southwest. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Aquadome Recreation Center at 1202 Fifth Ave. S.W.

Representatives of the city and Decatur Utilities will be available, Russell said.

A second meeting is scheduled for Thursday at Austinville United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. Russell said he will explore options concerning the preservation of Austinville's history.
