Huntsville police shoot, kill 2 men

HUNTSVILLE (AP) — Two men were shot and killed by Huntsville police after they allegedly tried to run over an officer in a restaurant parking lot.

Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said officers were at the Labomba Mexican restaurant on Governors Drive about 1:25 a.m. Sunday, when they heard one car crash into another in the parking lot.

As they tried to stop the vehicle, one of the officers was struck when the driver attempted to run over him, according to police.

The officer was not seriously injured.

Then, the two officers fired at the car, killing the passenger and the driver.

Police withheld the names of the two men pending notification of family members.

The officers have been placed on three days of administrative leave, which is standard policy during the investigation.
