Burke's Outlet is in a rush to open its Decatur store before Christmas, and it hopes shoppers will hold off on some purchases until Dec. 16.

Burke's, a subsidiary of Bealls Outlet of Bradenton, Fla., plans to open its store in the old Stein Mart building near Publix, at 1605 Beltline Road S.W., Unit A-2. After completing its $225,000 face-lift, it will offer merchandise similar to that of TJ Maxx.

The 16,508-square-foot store will focus on apparel, but also will have housewares, toys, shoes, purses, kitchen gadgets and other goods.

The outlet store pushes its Monday and Friday clubs. On Monday, customers 50 and over receive 15 percent discounts. Friday, those under 50 receive the same discount.

The company also offers a charge card and frequent-shopper discounts.

This will be Burke's 30th Alabama store. It also has stores in Huntsville, Madison and Muscle Shoals.

Ann Kopack, assistant for sales promotion, said the grand opening will have sharply discounted items. Coupons for the event will appear in newspapers.

"There's no one else there that offers the same set of merchandise," Kopack said. "We can't wait to open in Decatur."
