Trial in death of Internet bride begins

TUSCUMBIA (AP) — Jury selection began Monday in the capital murder trial of a man accused of killing his wife, whom he met through an Internet chat room, just two weeks after they were married.

Kim VanPelt, 45, was charged with capital murder in the 2004 death of Sandra VanPelt, 40. He has pleaded not guilty and been held without bond since his arrest. Authorities believe VanPelt's wife was killed Nov. 21, 2004, at their mobile home, dying from a head injury and suffocation. Her body was found by a hunter in a wooded area.
