4 charged in slaying of Madison man

HUNTSVILLE (AP) — Sheriff's deputies have charged two men and two women with capital murder in the shooting death of a Madison County man whose wife also was beaten in their home.

Sheriff Blake Dorning said Billy Matthew Smith, 24, of Lacey's Spring, and Kevin Higginbotham, 22, of Huntsville, were jailed Wednesday in the shooting death of Joseph Seals, 30, at Seals' house.

Brandy Nicole Paul, 22, and Cristin Lee Jackson, 27, also were being held without bond in the death. Dorning said the two women drove the other suspects to Seals' home and that Smith is believed to be the person who shot Seals once in the head.

Deputies found Seals dead and his wife, Amanda, with a head injury when they responded to a call about 11:30 p.m. Monday. A motive wasn't immediately clear.
