Daily readers predict their holiday spending

Four in 10 people responding to an online poll said their families will spend $500 to $1,000 this year to buy Christmas gifts. Most others said they'll spend less.

The two-day unscientific poll, which ended Thursday at www.decaturdaily.com, drew 238 responses.

Among these, 96 readers (40.3 percent) put their spending in the $500-to-$1,000 bracket. Fifty (21 percent) said they'd spend $200 to $500, and the same number said they'd spend $1,000 to $5,000.

Thirty-two responses (13.5 percent) were in the bracket of $0 to $200; 10 (4.2 percent) said they'd spend more than $5,000.
