Moulton police chief honors officers

MOULTON — Police Chief Lyndon McWhorter gave awards to six police officers for their service in 2006 at the department's Christmas party Friday night.

The officers honored were:

  • Sgt. Craig Knight received the Grady Rose Award, named after the former Lawrence County sheriff and commissioner who died Oct. 1, 2005.

  • Phil Kaylor received the Meritorious Award for 25 years of dedicated service to the Moulton Police Department.

  • Bob Arndt received the Drug Dog Award for making the most drug arrests for the year.

  • Investigator Capt. Damon Morgan, the second highest ranking officer on the force, received the Chief's Award of Excellence.

  • Octavius Hamilton received the Day Shift Officer of the Year Award. He made 150 arrests in 2006. (photo not available)

  • Shane Burkett received the Night Shift Officer of the Year Award. He made 234 arrests in 2006.

    Following the awards ceremony, the officers presented McWhorter with a golden police officer trophy to thank him for his leadership.
