Columnist speaks at Retired Teachers Association lunch

CADDO — Pastor and columnist James Evans praised teachers’ commitment to children Tuesday at the Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association’s monthly luncheon.

“My wife is 11 years away from being a retired teacher, so I know how valuable they are,” Evans said about his wife,
Brenda Adkisson, who has taught second grade for 14 years.

“What they do is so important. I encourage them to push past the bureaucracy, paperwork and discipline problems and go for those problem children that they can help,” he said.

Evans is the pastor at First Baptist Church in Auburn. For six years, he has written a religious column called “Faith Matters.”

Every Saturday, The Decatur Daily publishes the column, which often ties current political events with religious issues.
