Investigators arrested a retired Solutia employee Monday on charges he made threats of violence against the chemical company's facility here, Decatur police said.

Threats made by Paul Mark Funk, 69, Solutia officials to heighten security to threat Level 2, based on maritime security levels, said Detective Chris Jones.

Police did not reveal the exact nature of the threats, but Jones said they were "specific and severe enough" to warrant the heightened security.

Because Solutia has port access, the U.S. Coast Guard was also notified following Saturday's incident, police said.

Police found Funk at his of 1605 Eastwood Drive S.E. home and arrested him without incident on a warrant issued Monday charging him with making a terrorist threat, a Class C felony.

Attempts to reach Solutia officials Monday evening were unsuccessful.

Funk remained in Morgan County Jail, but he was expected to be released on $750 bond late Monday.
