ATHENS — Athens Police investigators are searching for a Tanner man who is a suspect in an apparent murder at Houston Court Apartments on Ninth Avenue.

Capt. Marty Bruce said Donnell McCullough, 64, died after two gunshots to the chest and one to the arm just after 12 a.m. Thursday.

Bruce said the department is not discussing details of the case but did say investigators questioned a witness who was in the apartment at the time of shooting.

The department is looking for 20-year-old Jarvis Werner Hines, a black male last seen driving a green or blue van, possibly a Dodge Caravan. Bruce said Hines is probably armed. A dispatcher said Hines may have a .357 handgun, but Bruce said he did not know whether this was the weapon used in the shooting.

Anyone with information on Hines should call Athens police at 233-8707.
